This is my 97 year old relative.. 97!!!😳🙌 She and my Granny were double first cousins. She goes by 'Punk'. Her photos have been featured in an inspirational book about active seniors as she participates in the National Senior Games each year. Even improving her 100 yard sprint from age 89 to age 91. She's been active her whole life. She managed to save her own life several years ago by recognizing that she was having a stroke while driving and pulled over to call for help. However, the fantastic, recent Black Belt gradings can not pass without being celebrated here or without me saying how proud I am of this amazing achievement by all who graded (with or without pictures!) We have new Shodan-hos, Shodans, Nidans and Sandans. Men and women from early teens and into their 70s. We have so many years and hours and so much sweat and hard work and dedication that went into those black belts. We even have a student who started as a Little Dragon! Competed my first Circuit Training class of the summer with my amazing humans this morning! 💪☀️ They loved the change in format from a regular class with an instructor in front and everyone completing the same movements, to stations of varying exercises. This allowed for more 1-1 attention and cueing when completing each exercise.
I’m so proud of my crew for trying something new this summer and changing things up!
With simple pictures and instructions at each spot, they were able to get a solid understanding of each movement.

Do you struggle with motivation to exercise? 🤨 📌 Here are 5 key Strategies to help you succeed!🙌 1) Define your personal internal reason. Why is exercising important to you? It has to mean something. Remind yourself of this everyday. This can be a GOAL you want to reach, or just a deep meaningful reason for being healthy.
2) Do an exercise you enjoy. Exercise can be hard. You need to challenge your comfort zone to progress. So do something you enjoy doing to make the moments of discomfort easier!
3) Make it a priority and part of your daily routine. It's ok if you don't exercise every single day, but it should be something you do most days of the week. If its habit, or part of your routine, its easier to stick with.
4) Give it structure. If you have to think about what you are going to do, for how long, etc... it takes up mental energy, and often is the cause of saying 'forget it'. Follow a plan, where you have it set up to know what you are doing. It helps with making it routine, gives you the chance to mentally prepare, and keeps you motivated to do it.
5) Have a support system. Whether its a partner to exercise with, a group you've joined, or a professional you've hired. Having someone to help keep you accountable, and to help make the workouts more enjoyable will keep you sticking with it.

In fact it should have been shoulders and leg. However, I’m riding my bike well over 25 miles a week, so legs are on hold for a while. I prioritize the oxygen uptake capability. .

The article goes on to say that exercise programs that focus on strength and balance are key to preventing falls. I don’t care if you hire me or go to the local senior center, do something to improve your mobility or help those older people in your life do something. My 'Strong Seniors' are halfway through their 12 Week program and to mark the occasion, we re-tested an AMRAP ('As Many Rounds As Possible') from Week 2!
Each round had 8 stations. The first number represents how many rounds were completed, plus the number of stations completed of the next round. .
As you can see, 3 participants today smashed their previous scores 🎉🎊 which I was pretty confident about!

Friday's group is a larger group (7) and next week we will do the same with them to compare results. I am sure it will show similar results 🤩

What a difference 6 weeks can make. Faster recovery, more comfortable with heart rate elevation, notably stronger and more ease and fluidity in movement.
