They are not an easy movement to execute so you will need to slowly progress your way up by working on your core through compound and isolation excercises such as squats, deadlifts, planks, hanging leg raises, etc.⠀

Start first with the knee to bar, strict form is always best! Dont compensate by using momentum, your abs will thank you for it on the beach! I like to use an overhand grip, once you can do 15 or more with strict form add a light ball between your feet or progress onto the knee to bar!⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Once you feel that you're ready for the knee to bar go for it, here are the steps to do the movement:⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

Well if you know me, the ninja world always sets me up in the worst way possible for comps. 1 1/2 years later, nothing has changed 😂😂. Walked up to 10 min to move my body and get on the course. On the spectrum of eye-catching to subtle, this movement is really on the subtle side. However, I’m about to tell you so many cool things about it that I think you’re going to want to run out and try it *right now*!

Cool things about this evil block thoracic extension move:
.
1️⃣ Sometimes when we want to work on isolating thoracic (upper & mid-back) extension, we unknowingly extend our neck as well (by lifting our chin), which can decrease the effectiveness of what we’re trying to do.
.
By placing a block from the back of our head to our upper back, we can *feel* what it’s like to keep our head still & in line with our spine as we extend solely from our upper/mid-back region. This will take the cervical spine out of the equation so we can focus on the movement we’re truly after!
.
2️⃣ The position of our arms to hold the block in place here is also advantageous because it requires our scapulas to be *upwardly rotated & protracted*.
.
This is grrreat because another way we often miss out on thoracic extension is by letting our scapulas retract toward each other instead of actually extending our spine. (This happens a lot in “cow” pose of cat/cow, if you can picture that!)
.
So here, our scapulas are kind of “locked” in a wide & lifted position that should help keep them out of the picture as we’re trying to just move our spine.
.
3️⃣ One final cool thing about this move: I placed a yoga blanket underneath my feet so that I could actively push ⬇️ into it to wake my legs up and involve them in my backbend. It’s easy for the legs to check out in prone backbend work, so using the blanket can help with this!

In conclusion: even though this is a small movement, it is an exceedingly cool one 😎, and I hope you consider giving it a try soon! #evilshittodowithblocks

It's essential to understand that big forearms build from holding heavy things (deadlifts, farmers carries, rows) frequently. Movements from this video along with the infamous and overused wrist curl are a waste of your time if you're not gripping heavy sh*t often.

These will be a nice mixup to your routine. Sprinkle these in now and then, but don't lose sight of the essential basics. Just like you don't want to be doing single-leg, band-assisted knee extensions to work your quads in place of squats, deadlifts, and lunges, you don't want to be doing 12lb wrist curls in place of 100lb farmers carries. Lets dive into building a calf, just like any other muscle group they all take time. Even if the calf can be a stubborn body part for most.

The calf is made up of two muscle groups the gastrocnemius and soleus. They can be broken down a bit further into other muscle groups but for simplistic sake the one that everyone cares about is the gastrocnemius (used for running and jump) and the soleus lies beneath the gastrocnemius (used for standing and walking).

What makes the difference in targeting the two different muscle groups is whether the leg is in a straight position and our knees being in a bent position.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
When the knee is bent, as when doing seated calf raises, the gastroc is unable to fully stretch and, therefore, unable to strongly contract. In these bent-leg movements, only the soleus is targeted. When the leg is fully straightened, however, the gastroc is brought back into the action. Straight-legged calf exercises like the standing calf raise and donkey calf raise work both the gastroc and soleus.

Also don't forget about working the angles on your calf raise, by having your foot position inward you can target more of the inner portion of the calf while having them outward will target more outside area of the calf muscle.

The keys to building bigger shoulders are not much different than most other muscle groups. .

If you've been following me long enough you know I love full body workouts. Not that they are necessarily better than other ways of working out or that a full body split is better than other splits, but they certainly have a ton of merit to work the body head to toe all at once; decreasing intraworkout volume and increasing weekly frequency on a muscle. The way I personally go about my full body workouts is choosing 1 to 2, sometimes even 3, exercises from each of the following categories; pushing, pulling and legs. For example, my full body workout can be deadlifts, overhead press press, barbell rows, goblet squats, cable crossovers and pullups in which I would be doing six total exercises, 2 from each category. If I realize my chest is more overdeveloped than my back I might do 1 pushing and 3 pulling or something along those lines as I have the freedom to do so. In terms of rep ranges, I like to stick to 6 to 12 and sometimes dip lower for strength work, but ideally I try to aim for 10 to 20 sets, usually 15+, of 6 to 12 reps per muscle group per week. Full body workouts are a great way to train as they burn a ton of calories, they decrease the strain in one muscle in a workout as you spread out the volume over more days, and they promote a lot of hormonal release in the body to out your body in an anabolic environment.

Always keep in mind that when it comes to your fitness, something is better than nothing.
Consistency is better than short bursts of your maximum effort.
And while short bursts may get results, maintaining the results, long term, is about being consistent.
And so it is with any goal you hope to achieve in life.
To get there then, work out the very least you could do every day without fail. Maybe its a walk outside, maybe a treadmill at home. Maybe 10 bodyweight squats.
Start there, add more complexity as you get more experienced, but never forget about the least you could do.

Monday to Thursday I spend an extra 15-20 minutes post workout doing ONLY 3 different exercises (a combination of strength, mobility and stretching) prescribed from my coach to suit my specific goals. Since adding this rehab/prehab to my training, a previous injury has almost healed and I haven’t had to visit the physio. DAY FOUR of my #Scoliosis Series
The Plow Pose is an advanced #yoga posture but I have included it in my beginner series for Scolio because it has been an important routine of straightening my spine. My thoracic and cervical spine started to get less cracky (that crackling sound it makes when you rotate your neck), and backbends were so much better after incorporating this to my practice. It released a lot of tension from my chronic back pain while it also helped with strengthening my core/abs!
However, what works for one doesn't work for all, so if you are uncomfortable with this movement or your spidey sense is telling you to sit this one out, please listen to your instincts. The spoons were with me today! I made the long journey to my new college and moved into my apartment. I still have a small appetite, but my joint pain and stomach pain are very manageable. I met with health services and disability services earlier this week and came up with great plans and accommodations. School starts on the 26th, so I have this week to relax and get myself ready for the semester.

🔵6 build up / warm up sets, increasing weight with each set until you hit 80% of your 1RM (this case 80kg)
🔵Then 3 work sets of 5 reps. Focus on the depth of the squat, your breathing and having a full front rack grip on the bar (so far only 3/4 😅)
🔵2 min rest between sets.
🔵The intensity will force your body to adapt = becoming stronger
The overall volume is high enough to fatigue your muscles and as long as you keep count on your calories=becoming bigger
🔵When you hit 5 reps with 2 consecutive workouts, it is time to increase the load (progressive overload)
🔵If you still feel shaky with the weights but just manage to do the reps, stay with that weight and grease the groove. Become smoother and more efficient!
🔵This is a similar approach to the Stronglifts 5x5, but with more warm up sets and 3 heavy work sets instead of 5🏋
🔵Pre & Post Training spend enough time on stretching and mobility! Especially your Ankles, Hips, Lats and Shoulders!
