So Tuesday means big leg day for me and I was back at it going heavy!! Going to feel this one tomorrow 😓 I switched up these push downs a bit. All I did was cross my leg over instead of keeping it straight and WOAH did I feel it. Did 3x16 115 lbs each leg. Little adjustments can make a BIG difference 💪🏻

Too often runners shy away from strength training. Probably stemming from the belief that doing so will make you bulky and slow. This is misguided. You can lift weights and not put on much size of any and still get much much stronger. The more we get the nervous system excited and recruiting motor units (muscles) the more efficient our running becomes and the faster we run. Lift heavy run faster. I remember telling myself 3 and a half years ago now that one day I'd have the most fittest athletic body and I'd have people look up to me like i look up to others!
I see it written all the time, consistency is literally the difference between making or breaking someone.
I think im quite knowledgeable now, and i also believe my training and work ethic in the gym is very high. But I'd never say that i believe i am better or train the hardest, or that i am the most knowledgeable. But i do believe that compared to some others my consistency and persistence has certainly been the attribute that perhaps i can influence you with. So many people start something, say they wish to 'look' 'achieve' or 'desire' a particular physique, or even a goal outside the gym. And then due to a range of factors whether it be they can't handle the fact you gotta look shit and be shit to begin with and start at the bottom to get somewhere, or the fact people are gonna knock you but you just have to get back up every day and keep going, and your gonna have days where it's not your number one priority but you have to still keep on going each and everyday. You have to back yourself, you have to push yourself, and you have to remember you only fail if you quit. 3 and a half years is a long ass time to work on one goal and to continue to believe in yourself everyday. I say it quite often, but the only thing i want you to ever learn from me, regardless of what you think of me, is to keep fucking going every day! You can do it! You will get there! 💕

I believe that the toughest distance in life can be the distance between you and the ones you love. I have seen that first hand in my parents when they migrated to a new world traveling that tough distance from their family for a sake of a brighter day for me. And now I experience it myself when I left in pursuit of a brighter life in going away to college and now career. It feels tough especially knowing that my father was recently hospitalized and I'm far away powerless. Even though there maybe phsical distance between us ... your with me in my heart and prayers love you dad and hope you make a full recovery. And just like your fighting a tough disease and not giving up I WILL TOO CONTINUE TO FIGHT any obstacle that weighs me down. I pray that gods heals him and heal all of our loved ones and give each of us the strength to fight our battles.

FINALLY. I’m pretty sure you be been stuck at a 325lbs bench for 5 years. Given I never focused on upper body work. Lower body was always a lot more important to me. However, today I finally got 330lbs!!!! Definitely had more left in the tank. I think I can get 365lbs by the end of the year as long as I can stay healthy. Then next year 405lbs. Big day today. I’m sure with technique work I could get to 365lbs in a month, but I’d really need to practice it to refine it. Who knows. Maybe I will and get squat and deadlift technique work as well. Training principles....
When it comes to hypertrophy and strength training we know there’s many many different methods and systems that we can utilise and they will all work as long as they follow certain principles...
.
Specificity - Training must be specific to the goal. If you want to build muscle then you need to be lifting weights not doing box jumps and burpees.
.
Progressive overload - You need to be able to overload the movements you do. Increasing load lifted, doing more reps, more sets, more range of motion, etc.
.
Fatigue management - Training hard is important but if fatigue gets to high and you can’t recover then there is no chance of adaptation and progression.
.
Individualisation - If you struggle to barbell squat efficiently, choose another squat variation. If you have a shoulder injury, choose an exercise that doesn’t affect it.
.
The principles are the foundations to any method, so as long as your programme follows these principles and most importantly is adhered to, it will bring about those gains in muscle growth and strength. .
